on the news we often see thousands if not hundreds of thousands of mideasterners (iran, iraq, pakistan, etc...
protesting various activities of their government or the united states government, or london or for whatever reason. there are always 1000's of these people yelling in the streets. How are they always able to get off work to go to these protests? Should americans be granted, say 3 days per month, to protest things we don't like here? (for example the war). Because we really can't protest the way others do in other countries, doesn't that make our government in the united states more controlling and less democratic than the countries we are trying to "Free" and bring democracy to?

- Protest in same numbers in U.S. as well though point taken. The idea of Human Supremacy undermines all democracy though. Human Supremacy as defined by a belief everyone and everything and everyone is only there for humanity and monetary gain that Humans are superior to all life forms have the right to wipe out other lifeforms including people. Racist belief though not seen that way. See things in terms of Lower Lifeforms well maybe self aggrandizing statement but saying so is like viewing things like Humazis HumaNazis. All none Human life as not valuable not worthy of a chance to live like Humans
- Uhh... use a SICK day. My employer gave the day off to the Mexican-American employees so that they could attend a protest about immigration. As far as what the middle easterners do? Maybe their cities are so ravaged by constant war that life does not have the same order as it does here. Frankly, I have never felt that protest schudules have ever conflicted with my school and work schedules, certainly not enough that I need three days off a month. That's ludicrous. If you want to protest so badly, quit your job and take it up full-time.
- The protest march in most of the Asian nations including the middle east, African, Latin and in the Central America, if you could rightly make a survey would find most of them namely 50 to 90 percent of them are jobless and are paid for their services to participate in the march!
- Yes, it is true. I am from Argentina and I am living in the US. In my opinion people here is less free comparing with Argentina. Yo do not see here strikes and there are good reasons to make strikes. Here you see people proud to pay the taxes. They do not go to an good accounting to try to pay legally less taxes, knowing that their taxes are going to pay Iraq war while schools are being closed. There are web place to protest against the war and few people take the time to do it. But they think that they are free. It is difficult to understand why here people is so pasive.
- Well, as far as I could observe people in the Middle East have their demonstrations and protests on Fridays, which is their days off. If there is a special 'event' like the current assasinantion in Pakistan for example, I guess people don't really care if they miss work when they go for a preotest march. Also in most of the mentioned countries they have traditionally a very long midday break, where shops and offices are closed - between aprox. 1pm and 4pm -but they work longer in the evenings because of that break. These three hours of break could be used for a protest march. I do think people should be more proactively participating , especially in a democracy - and this includes protesting things that are considered wrong. But one can take a vacation day, and most big protest marches are scheduled on weekends anyway to ensure that a lot of people can participate.
- When protest go on in most countries throughout the world especially third world coutries. it is concidered your civic duty to be out there protesting and if you open your shop during these event you are likley to have your store or building vandalized. This is exceptable behavior in most coutries during theses event . YES all businesses are closed at these times
- A few years back, a friend's son worked in Saudia Arabia laying pipeline. Every day the Saudi men would show up like clock work, just stand around all day and watch the Americans. He said it was very weird. They didn't say anything or get in the way. But that was what they looked forward to each day... just watching.
