Should British Government force India and Pakistan to apologise for genocide of hindus on 14 &15 August 1947?
India and Pakistan were British colonies prior 1947. As they freed this part, a few political leaders for their selfish ambitions partitioned the country. Partition led to looting killing of Hindus in West India now Pakistan. No where in the history of Humanity this has ever happened that People are killed because they follow particular religion, Governments join these people to kill, snatch properties cash jewellary etc from hindus India and Pakistan must not only apologise for killings of innocent on 15 th August 2007 but also pledge to return/compensate for the loss of the properties of Hindus consequent to Devision of nation based on religion during 1947

- Why is it the British government responsibility now that they gave Indian and Pakistanis their independence to do the job of the two countries government.? If these two government don't care about what happen to their people 66 years ago now that they are nation with their own laws and government then why should Britain get involve. That's what I think..
- I think one needs a lesson in the history of the sub-continent. The policy was called 'Divide and Rule', the one followed by the British Government and it was due to the same that India was partitioned. So rather that blaming it on the two, who were partitioned, let us try and find out who did it to them. Rather than putting the blame on the poor blighters who had it raw for more than 2 centuries and while they were looking for things to become better, they be split into 2 or shall I say 3 (East and West Pakistan, at that time). They are still trying to come to terms with it, 60 years after they were partitioned. It would indeed be in the propriety of things that the British Government, at least now, apologise for what they did to unpartitioned India for more than 200 years. I am told that Japan has started doing that already to countries that sufferred under their regime during the Second World War. P.S. That would also be a good way to overcome your guilt in the matter, if any.
- when something is forced, then there is no depth in it. so what would be the point.
- I think you are forgetting the murder and ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Muslims and Sikhs in the same catastrophe. No ethnic/religious group is innocent or exempt. I agree that Partition was caused by the selfish ambitions of politicians on both sides. But how can Britain force two sovereign Commonwealth states to start reparations sixty years after the event? such an attempt can only re-open the wound of Indo-Pakistani rivalry. *I note that others are inevitably attempting to blame Britain for the events. Typically for both agreeing to the Partition and for trying to maintain a unified nation - it seems Britain can never win with the anti-imperialist, multikulti knob-jockeys.
- First of all I would like to say it is the British Empire's fault for creating such a division, as the question states prior to 1947 Hindu's and Muslims all lived in one country, when India were fighting for Independence many atrocities were inflicted upon both races. Finally after 100 years India were free, and muslims took advantage of the situation to fight for their own country now known as Pakistan, since that day Pakistan has terrorised India wanting Kashmir and fighting for what is not theirs. Even before the partition Hindu's and Sikh's have suffered so much at the hands of Muslims, being forced into Islam!! where do you think Bangladesh came from!!!! I think the British Governement should keep their noses out of what doesnt concern them!! Maybe the Queen should give the jewels back which she stole from the buildings in India which she wears on her head!!! Britain should keep well away from this matter and mind their own business.
- It is the British Government that should apologise if anyone!British India was a classic example of trying to create a single country across ethnic cultural and religious lines with the usual disastrous result. As for it not happening elsewhere research Yugoslavia, Iraq, the U S S R, and the Ottoman Empire they all collapsed in bloody ruin. Now they are trying to do the same to Europe
- "No where in the history of Humanity this has ever happened that People are killed because they follow particular religion,..." Uhh. excuse me? How about: Genocidal atrocities committed in Bosnia-Herzegovina by the Serbs, now an indelible part of human history; Germany - 6 million Jews murdered just for being Jews; Russia's systematic persecution and murder of Jews under both the Tsars *and* Communism. Were all these not part of recorded human history? It is not for Britain to instruct either India or Pakistan in their internal matters of State.
- The UK government has as much responsibility for what happened as those of India and Pakistan. Much of the killing took place before the UK handed over power, and in any case, having prcticed divide and rule for generations, it was absurd to rush through partition as they did. Even at the handover of power, they had not fully determined the new borders. I'm puzzled why you only mention the killings of Hindus; Sikhs and Muslims were also slaughtered in large numbers. It's a bit late to offer compensation now, however people on both sides should be more open about what happened, to avoid repetitions, eg violence in Gujarat, Kashmir, etc. Also, I have to point out that religious massacres did not start at Partition. Even if you don't consider Hitler's killing of the Jews to be religiously motivated, nor the genocide of the Armenians in 1915, the case of the Crusaders in Jerusalem 1099 is clearcut.
- THERE WAS MASS GENOCIDE OF MULSIMS, SIKHS, CHRISTIANS, PARSI'S AND EVEN HINDUS. STOP ACTING LIKE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO WERE KILLED WERE HINDUS. PEOPLE LIKE YOU JUST SPREAD HATE! You should be ashamed. Your fellow Hindus would be sooo ashamed of you right now. YOU HATER!!!
