- Federal republic - a state in which the powers of the central government are restricted and in which the component parts (states, colonies, or provinces) retain a degree of self-government; ultimate sovereign power rests with the voters who chose their governmental representatives.
- Short answer: The worst kind Complicated but politically correct answer: Its a republic. The previous answer sums it up, although throughout much of pakistan's history they've had a military ruler often bordering a dictator-like manner of rule.` There are several reasons for pakistan's democracy's failure to perform: 1) The military has been an important influence in the country because of the 3 wars with India and American funding to support the Taliban militarily in the 80s. 2) Corruption is rampant and many political leaders are uneducated. The educated have very little patience for politics and those that do join politics end up leading organizations like the MQM, an almost separatist movement. 3) Pakistan has never had the opportunity to develop a good model of democracy. The country's founder, the man with the main vision died soon after independence and ever since pakistanis have been debating whether he intended Pakistan to be an Islamic nation with Islamic laws, or a nation of muslims with secular laws. 4) Pakistan is a very diverse country in terms of religion (many sects of islam and other religious minorities), ethnicity, education, and income. Makes it harder to get to a common ground. While the same can be said about the US, keep in mind that the US has had constant waves of immigration form different parts of the world for over 200 years. Pakistan on the other hand practically had 500,000 people move there from india within the space of 1 to 2 years.
